Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) have come together to appeal to President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
At a press conference organized by the Coalition of Nigerian Civil Society Organizations in collaboration with PWDs, Muhammad Musa Zaria, Chairman of the Northern Youth Disability Forum, highlighted the importance of having a minister who understands the challenges faced by PWDs and advocates for their needs.
Tejuosho has demonstrated her dedication and advocacy for the less privileged and PWDs over the years, making her a suitable candidate for the role, according to the CSOs and PWDs.
They believe that her appointment would contribute to the realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the area of poverty alleviation, and enable Nigerians to benefit from the dividends of democracy.
Zaria emphasized that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has been lacking a minister, resulting in a failure to provide essential support to the less privileged.
He expressed confidence that Tejuosho, with her track record of generosity and passion for the community, would bring about positive change in the lives of the less privileged and disadvantaged in Nigeria.
The statement issued by the CSOs and PWDs underlined their collective resolve, urging for the consideration of competence and merit above political or regional considerations in the appointment of the new minister.
They believe that Tejuosho’s longstanding support for the community and her suitability for the role make her the right person for the job.
