Dana Air has recently laid off numerous employees, failing to settle outstanding salary payments. The airline’s management attributed the layoffs to an operational audit mandated by regulatory authorities. However, affected employees suspect the move is part of a broader plan to cease operations.

In April, reports emerged that the Nigerian government had instructed the airline to halt its commercial activities due to safety concerns. The management announced the layoffs as a temporary measure pending the audit’s completion.

In a communication to the affected employees, the management stated, “We regret to inform you that your service is no longer required effective May 9, 2024. This difficult decision was necessitated by the unfortunate suspension of our AOC/business operations by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the enormous challenges the suspension continues to occasion.”

The airline expressed gratitude to the staff for their contributions, saying, “We take this opportunity to thank you for your contribution to the organization during your time here with us and wish you the best in your future endeavors.”

Dana Air emphasized that the ongoing audit, a collaborative effort with the authorities, aims to ensure compliance with all necessary standards and regulations. The airline remains committed to cooperating fully with the authorities to expedite the audit process and facilitate a smooth resolution.

The temporary disengagement of staff was framed as a measure to manage resources efficiently and allow for a thorough review of operational procedures. The management extended its appreciation to all employees for their resilience and dedication during this challenging period.

The airline reassured its staff that it is working diligently to address the situation and has begun discussions with lessors and stakeholders regarding the progress made so far. Dana Air called for calm and understanding from its dedicated staff and stakeholders.

“Dana Air remains committed to providing updates and support to its staff throughout this process,” the statement continued. “While these challenges are being addressed, the airline is preparing a restart plan to ensure the safe and efficient resumption of operations.”

The airline concluded by expressing confidence that, with the continued support of its staff and stakeholders, it will overcome the current challenges and emerge stronger.
