Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, has clarified that his absence from the All Progressives Congress (APC) was brief, lasting only seven months, and insists that he is not a newcomer to the party.
His remarks come in response to criticism regarding his acceptance of a media position under President Tinubu, especially after he previously expressed strong disapproval of the APC and its leadership.
In a recent television interview, Bwala defended himself against the backlash, suggesting that many of the attacks against him were orchestrated by others.
“I am not the only one affected by the President’s decisions that impact the APC and beyond. You have interviewed me consistently over the past eight years, during which I have defended the APC as a member. My credentials speak for themselves,” Bwala stated.
“I am not a newcomer; my time away was just seven months. Yet, the criticisms continue to focus on me. While there are reasons behind this, I believe some of these attacks are sponsored,” he added.
In a related note, Bwala expressed his admiration for Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, asserting that he would never engage in any rivalry with him.
Bwala praised Onanuga as an elder statesman and an accomplished journalist with a commendable history of service to the nation.
“Bayo Onanuga is a respected elder statesman and a highly regarded journalist with an impressive track record. I am pleased he is at the helm of our media team,” Bwala remarked.
“I have not been officially informed, but I support his leadership wholeheartedly. Out of respect for his experience and achievements, I will never put myself in a position to compete with him. If he asks me to assist with a task, I will gladly do so—that is my role. It’s not about titles,” he concluded.
