Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has been elected as the new chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, with Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State appointed as his deputy. This decision was announced by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State, who heads the South-West Governors’ Forum, following a lengthy meeting held at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital, on Monday.

In his acceptance speech after the extensive five-hour meeting, Governor Abiodun expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and Governor Soludo by their colleagues. He pledged to uphold this trust and provide effective leadership that fosters the growth and progress of the southern region. Governor Abiodun succeeds the late Rotimi Aketedolu, former Governor of Ondo State, in this pivotal role.

The meeting was attended by thirteen governors and three deputy governors, although Governor Similayi Fubara of Rivers State was notably absent. A detailed communique outlining the outcomes of the deliberations will be released shortly.

This development marks a significant step in regional cooperation and governance, aimed at addressing common challenges and advancing shared interests across the southern states of Nigeria.
