Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to accusations made by his colleague Portable regarding alleged poor advice given during their recent dinner in the United States.

Portable recently expressed his frustrations, claiming that during their dinner, Davido advised him against signing with Sony Music, the label to which Davido himself is signed. Instead, Davido allegedly suggested that Portable should sign with Empire. Portable saw this advice as suspect, stating that he is also aiming for a Grammy, just like Davido, yet the DMW boss is directing him towards a label that might not facilitate such an achievement.

In an Instagram Live session, Portable voiced his concerns: “You are signed to Sony Music, but you’re giving me bad advice in America to get signed to Empire and collect advance. The same Grammy you’re chasing is what I’m also chasing.” He added that he seeks genuine support, like what he received from Olamide and Skepta, who have both helped him significantly in his career.

Davido’s reaction to these allegations was swift and noticeable; he unfollowed Portable on Instagram. A check of their respective Instagram accounts on Thursday evening confirmed that Davido had indeed severed their social media connection. This move has not gone unnoticed by fans and media alike, further fueling the controversy.

Previously, Portable had raised alarms that some individuals were trying to create a conflict between him and Davido. He mentioned that people have been “pushing” him to fight with Davido, but he had resisted these provocations because he appreciates the help Davido has given him in the past. Despite this, Portable felt compelled to address what he perceived as misleading advice publicly.

In his Instagram Live session, Portable highlighted the importance of genuine help and cautioned against listening to gossip or bad advice. He contrasted Davido’s advice with the tangible support he has received from other artists, underscoring his preference for direct and sincere assistance over potentially self-serving counsel.

As this drama unfolds, it remains to be seen how it will impact the relationships and careers of both artists.
