Veteran journalist and prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly rewarding unqualified associates with key government positions.

In his assessment of Tinubu’s cabinet, Momodu argued that the President’s attempt to apply his successful strategies from Lagos to the national stage is leading to failure.

During an interview, in response to Nigeria’s ongoing economic troubles, Momodu expressed difficulty in identifying even ten ministers or appointees from Tinubu’s administration along with their significant achievements.

“I’ve traveled to Australia, and you can find Nigerians excelling in various fields everywhere. So where are these talented individuals in Nigeria? Nowadays, it seems like success hinges on being related to someone in power—either you’re the son or daughter of an influential figure. Nigeria cannot thrive on nepotism and favouritism. It’s all about rewarding friends and former classmates,” he remarked.

Momodu further noted, “Many individuals in Tinubu’s cabinet are entirely reliant on him. They can’t speak the truth to his face. I know the conversations they have behind closed doors when they see us.”

He concluded by stating, “What we are witnessing is an attempt to transport the Lagos model to Abuja, which is why we are not succeeding.”

“I am a firm believer in having a cabinet filled with stars. If you were to ask me to list ten ministers from Tinubu’s cabinet and their contributions before their appointments, I would find it challenging. That’s the reality.”
