Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested three suspected gun runners known for manufacturing and supplying arms and ammunition to armed robbers and kidnappers.
The CP Olufemi Abaniwonda Special Squad arrested Tega Dierunaba, 44, from Ororokpe Community in Okpe LGA Delta State, but residing in the Enerhen area of Warri, and Chibiuke Anuforo Cosmas, 42, from Orlu Town in Nkwerre LGA, Imo State, but residing in Musheshe Cold-Room Industrial Area, Enehren Road, Warri.
The third suspect, Sunday Moses Pam, 36 years old from Von Community in Jos South LGA of Plateau State, but resident in Oka Close, in Enehren Warri, Delta State, who usually concealed and conveyed the arms from Plateau State to Delta State.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the image maker of the Delta Police Command, the trio was identified through the arrest of 38-year-old Goodluck Sakutu from Ekpan Community in Uvwie LGA. Sakutu was apprehended with a fabricated AK-47 rifle, leading to further investigations.
“Following an intensive intelligence-led investigation related to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle on June 8, 2024, the team led by ASP Julius Robinson acted on the firm directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda. On July 16, 2024, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 7:35 PM, the team arrested the trio: Tega Dierunaba, Chibiuke Anuforo Cosmas, and Sunday Moses Pam,” stated SP Edafe.
The suspects are currently in custody, with the investigation ongoing.
Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda emphasized the importance of community cooperation in fighting crime. “Crime can be tackled at any stage—before, during, or after. I encourage residents to trust the policing process and provide useful, credible, and timely information about suspicious activities. I assure them that justice will be served and their identities will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” he said.
