A 23-year-old woman, Precious Yusuf, has been found dead along DLA Road in Asaba, the Delta State capital, after meeting a male friend she encountered on a dating website called iHappy.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, Precious’s body was discovered on Thursday along the road after the police were alerted.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities recovered her body and initiated a preliminary investigation to identify her. Edafe revealed that Precious had informed a friend on Tuesday about her plans to meet a man she met on the dating site.
The friend reported that Precious had called her on Wednesday to indicate she was returning home, marking the last communication before her body was found.
Edafe stated, “Preliminary investigations revealed that on October 22, 2024, she told her friend she was going to see a male friend she met on the iHappy dating website. She left her house on October 22 to meet the young man at Coka.”
He added, “On October 23 at about 7:30 a.m., she called her friend to say she was on her way home. Unfortunately, that was the last time she made contact before her body was discovered the following day.”
While emphasizing that an investigation is underway, Edafe confirmed that Precious’s body has been sent to a morgue for an autopsy. He urged young women to exercise caution when interacting with individuals they meet online.
“The body has been deposited at the mortuary pending an autopsy. The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, assures the public and the family of the deceased that an investigation has commenced and that justice will be served,” Edafe concluded.
He urged young women to be vigilant and cautious when socializing with individuals from dating websites and other social media platforms.
This incident follows a report from August 20, which detailed the case of 21-year-old Mojisola Awesu, a student from the Kwara State College of Health Technology.
Mojisola was found dead at a refuse dump in Ilorin after being contracted by a friend to act as a girlfriend for a private university student at a party for a fee of N15,000.
The Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that the body was discovered by laborers and identified as Awesu, prompting a police investigation.
