Ogun State Government on Thursday commenced the destruction of shanties and makeshift structures that were erected under bridges and public places across Abeokuta south local government of the state.

Farouk Akintunde, the senior special assistant to the Governor of the state headed the operation and also mentioned traders surrounding the area were warned about the destruction activities of the shanties.

Farouq mentioned further that the traders were given a notice last year but they refused to move out, which is the reason why they came to destroy all the unauthorized and temporary structures around the area of the state.

Lastly, Akintunde mentioned that the shanties have steadily become a major hideout for criminals in the area of the state to perform criminal activities which has led to increased insecurity.

 

According to some reports, the demolition of the structures were already carried out at Panseke, Kuto, and Nawair-udeen areas of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.
