Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has issued a stern warning to Corps Members about the prohibition of night travel during their service year.

Addressing the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two Corps Members and camp officials at the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, Ahmed emphasized that any journey not authorized by the Scheme will result in sanctions according to NYSC regulations.

He advised that if a compulsory trip is necessary, it should be concluded by 6:00 pm. Corps Members are instructed to seek safe accommodations, such as military barracks, police stations, or Corps Lodges, if they are still traveling after this time, and to continue their journey the following day.

“Once it is 6:00 pm, find a secure location to spend the night. Continue your journey the next day,” Ahmed advised. He stressed the importance of discipline, security awareness, and adherence to NYSC Byelaws throughout the service year.

During the orientation ceremony, which marked the opening of the course, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmood, reiterated the FCT administration’s ongoing support for the NYSC.

Represented by Mandate Secretary Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, the minister urged Corps Members to serve as exemplary representatives of their families and to take full advantage of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme for self-employment opportunities.

NYSC FCT Coordinator Mrs. Winifred Shopeka welcomed the 2,557 registered Corps Members, including 1,098 males and 1,459 females. She noted their smooth adjustment to camp life and readiness to contribute to the development of the Federal Capital Territory. Shopeka commended the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for creating a conducive environment for the orientation course.

The coordinator warned against negative behaviors, including drug abuse and other anti-social activities, which will not be tolerated.

The Oath of Allegiance was administered to the Corps Members by the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Huseini Baba Yusuf, represented by Justice Mustapha Adamu, with NYSC Director General Ahmed and other dignitaries present.
