A heated altercation between two market vendors escalated dramatically this morning, June 7, 2024, in the Ikole area of Ekiti State, resulting in one woman pouring hot water on her fellow seller.
The incident occurred at the Ikole Market in the early hours. According to eyewitnesses, the dispute arose over a customer seeking goods.
Both women, who sell similar items, were reportedly vying for the customer’s patronage when the argument began.
The situation quickly intensified as verbal exchanges turned aggressive.
In a sudden and shocking move, one of the women grabbed a pot of boiling water from her stall and threw it on her rival. The victim, whose identity has been withheld, sustained severe burns and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Market traders and bystanders intervened to prevent further escalation and apprehended the assailant. Authorities were called to the scene, and the woman responsible for the attack was taken into police custody.
Charges are expected to be filed against the suspect. The condition of the injured woman remains serious according to hospital officials.
