In a surprising revelation, Doyin Okupe, a former director general of the Peter Obi 2023 presidential campaign organization, has expressed his belief that a significant number of individuals who display intolerance towards his political opinions belong to a specific ethnic group.

This comes after Okupe faced severe criticism for shifting his allegiance from his former ally, Peter Obi, and proclaiming that President Bola Tinubu is the most suitable candidate for the 2023 presidential elections.

In a media post, Okupe pondered whether it was mere coincidence that nearly 80 percent of those who oppose his viewpoints hail from a particular ethnic background.

Asserting his commitment to nationalism, Okupe highlighted that during the general elections, he supported a candidate from the South East, despite being from the South West himself.

The seasoned politician explained that his support for Obi was solely based on the principle of ensuring that a southern candidate succeeds former president Muhammadu Buhari. Unfortunately, Obi did not emerge victorious in the election.

“If I did not contribute to his victory, should I now join others in unjustifiably tearing him down?” Okupe questioned.

In his thought-provoking post, he stated, “Is it merely a coincidence that nearly 80% of those who insult, abuse, and show intolerance towards my views on this platform belong to a single ethnic group? Wow! Throughout my life and political career, I have consistently been a nationalist.

I willingly went out of my way to support the Southeast’s quest for the presidency based on principle.”

Despite facing insults, intolerance, and crude behavior, Okupe emphasized his unwavering commitment to being a true nationalist.

He emphasized the substantial investments made in fostering unity and brotherhood, stating that this new wave of bigotry would not undo the friendships and bonds that have already been established.
