Renowned former Director-General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has emphasized that his recent show of support for President Bola Tinubu is not motivated by personal ambitions for government appointments.

In a thought-provoking statement shared on Monday, Okupe addressed a critic who questioned his congratulatory message to Tinubu on his re-election as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

At 72 years old, Okupe expressed contentment and revealed that his personal aspirations are limited. He made it clear that he has surpassed the phase of actively seeking appointments, acknowledging the immense kindness and blessings he has received from God throughout his life.

Having served closely with two presidents in the past, Okupe acknowledged the power and influence he wielded during those periods.

However, he stressed that his current actions and words are driven by a genuine desire to contribute to the betterment of the country as an elder statesman with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Reflecting on his current position, Okupe stated that he no longer relies on Nigeria to fulfill his personal needs. Instead, he is prepared to wholeheartedly dedicate himself to supporting the country and its leadership in any way possible, regardless of who holds the reins of power.

In a noteworthy development, Okupe offered advice to President Tinubu on Sunday. He urged the President to seek a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, emphasizing that the discord can only be resolved through discussions and reconciliation of the conflicting parties’ interests.

Dr. Doyin Okupe’s unwavering support for President Tinubu and his sincere call for political reconciliation in Rivers State highlight his selflessness and commitment to the country’s welfare.

As an elder statesman, his wisdom and experience continue to shape the discourse surrounding Nigeria’s political landscape.
