As the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies its campaign across the hinterlands of Edo Central Senatorial District ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election, former governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki for the underdevelopment of Esanland.

Speaking at an APC rally in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area, Oshiomhole specifically accused Obaseki of depriving the people of Ewohimi of essential services like potable water and quality healthcare.

During the rally, Oshiomhole expressed his frustration over the abandonment of the hospital he built and equipped in Ewohimi. “I built a hospital in Ewohimi and provided all the necessary facilities before leaving office.

However, when Obaseki took over, he abandoned it, and now, the hospital is not functioning. The people of Ewohimi, who already had to travel far to Irrua for medical care, have been left without a viable healthcare facility,” he stated.

Oshiomhole also lamented the halt of a crucial water project intended to provide clean drinking water to Ewohimi and its neighboring communities.

“Recognizing the lack of potable water in Ewohimi, I initiated a project to connect the Ugbalo Water Project to Agadaga in Ewohimi, and awarded the contract to a local contractor. Despite paying 50% of the contract, Obaseki stopped the project when he assumed office,” Oshiomhole added.

Addressing allegations that he referred to the people of Ewohimi as “witches and wizards,” Oshiomhole clarified, “I never called anyone witches or wizards.

My comment was an illustration about Asue Ighodalo never spending time in Ewohimi or even staying to eat his mother’s food there.”

The former governor concluded by urging the people of Ewohimi to support APC’s governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in the upcoming election.

“Since 2007, Ewohimi has consistently supported me. I ask you not to fail me now. Monday Okpebholo will not disappoint you,” he pleaded.

The Director General of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Matthew Urhoghide, also appealed to the people to vote for the APC on election day, while the party’s governorship candidate, Okpebholo, assured the crowd that the APC has the solutions to their challenges.
