The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), is set to meter approximately 500,000 homes across the state. This initiative, aimed at tackling the persistent issue of estimated billing, will officially commence on August 13.

Commissioner for Mining, Energy, Oil and Gas, Enaholo Ojiefo, made this announcement on Saturday, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring fair and accurate electricity billing. The metering project will span all three senatorial districts within Edo State.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BEDC’s management at his office, Commissioner Ojiefo detailed that each household will receive a government-subsidized meter, which will also be covered by an insurance policy. Meters are expected to be delivered within 10 days of payment.

The Commissioner emphasized that subscribers should access the payment portal starting August 14, assuring prompt meter distribution.

“The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, will distribute meters to approximately 500,000 homes across the state.
