The organization known as Edolites For Peace and Progress has raised concerns about a purported scheme by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the ongoing hunger protests in Edo State for their own political advantage.
In a statement released today, Madam Adesua Odigie, the group’s convener, claimed that the APC is attempting to take advantage of the protests—intended to highlight issues of poverty and hunger—to undermine the PDP-led government in the state.
Odigie characterized the APC’s actions as a tactical ploy aimed at sowing political discord and deflecting criticism from the current administration.
“It has come to our attention that the APC is actively trying to co-opt and manipulate the legitimate grievances of the protesters,” she said.
“This attempt to exploit the situation for political gain is nothing short of a desperate measure to discredit the PDP government,” Odigie emphasized.
The Edolites For Peace and Progress alleged that the APC’s participation in the protests serves to distract from the underlying issues and provoke unrest among the populace.
Their statement asserted: “The APC’s interference is aimed at fostering an environment of confusion and laying the blame for current economic difficulties on the PDP administration. Such tactics are deeply unethical and seek to undermine genuine efforts to address the people’s suffering.”
The group has called on the APC to halt these alleged manipulative actions and instead pursue constructive dialogue.
“We urge the APC to stop using the hardships faced by the people of Edo as a political weapon. Instead, they should focus on meaningful solutions and collaborate towards alleviating the economic challenges in our state,” the group urged.
Moreover, Edolites For Peace and Progress expressed their support for the initiatives of the PDP-led government aimed at addressing the state’s pressing issues and called for solidarity among the residents of Edo.
“In these challenging times, it is vital for all stakeholders to unite and work together for the betterment of Edo State. We must remain vigilant against attempts to derail our progress and concentrate on building a prosperous future for all,” the statement concluded.
