Ahead of the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has initiated the airlifting of election materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed that the airlift operation is crucial for the timely and secure delivery of sensitive materials essential for the smooth conduct of the elections.

“This move is part of a broader effort to ensure the timely and secure delivery of election materials necessary for a seamless election process,” said Ali. “The airlift operation underscores the collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and INEC, aimed at facilitating logistics and ensuring a peaceful election in Edo State.”

Group Captain Ali highlighted that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, had recently reaffirmed NAF’s commitment to supporting INEC with the airlift of electoral materials during a meeting with INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu. This initiative is in line with NAF’s constitutional role of providing Military Aid to Civil Authority.

The ongoing airlift operation is designed to ensure that all necessary materials arrive in Edo State promptly, thereby contributing to the overall success of the upcoming governorship election.
