The Edo State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to step in and resolve the ongoing issues affecting the state.
The party urged Tinubu to engage with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo to avert chaos resulting from what they allege is a blatant violation of the rule of law.
During a press conference held in Benin City on Saturday, Anthony Aziegbemi, the state caretaker committee chairman, expressed his concerns following the recent impeachment of Tom Obaseki, the Chairman of Oredo Local Government.
Aziegbemi claimed that the impeachment was executed by 12 impostors who pretended to be councillors and forcibly entered the council’s secretariat in Benin City.
He called on President Tinubu to address what he termed a gross disregard for legal protocols.
Labeling the actions of the APC-led government as a “coup d’état,” Aziegbemi expressed alarm over the situation.
“We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action, as the situation is increasingly concerning. This is a coup orchestrated by the APC-led government in Edo State against democratic principles.
“The Edo State government must be reined in to prevent a descent into anarchy due to the blatant disregard for the rule of law.
“The most recent impeachment occurred at the Oredo Local Government, where 12 impostors masquerading as councillors stormed the council and claimed to have removed Chairman Tom Obaseki,” he alleged.
