The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man allegedly supplying weapons to thugs ahead of the much-anticipated election scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 21, 2024. The suspect, identified as Mike Osaro, was apprehended in the early hours of Friday during a police operation aimed at curbing electoral violence in the state.
According to a statement released by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, the suspect was arrested following intelligence reports linking him to a gang of political thugs planning to disrupt the election. The police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during the raid, including several locally-made pistols, cutlasses, and rounds of live ammunition.
“We have been on the lookout for individuals who may be working to cause unrest during the elections, and we are glad to report that this arrest is a major breakthrough. Our team will continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure a peaceful and fair election process,” the commissioner said.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing interrogation. The police also stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the group involved in the illegal supply of weapons.
