Ogie tendered his resignation on August 9, 2024, following his nomination earlier in February as the running mate to the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, for the September 21 election.
Speaking after submitting his resignation letter, Ogie cited compliance with electoral regulations, which require political appointees aspiring for office to resign 30 days before the election.
“It is in fulfillment of this requirement that I have resigned to focus on my deputy governorship ambition in the upcoming state election,” Ogie stated.
Reacting to Ogie’s resignation, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, Publisher of Midwest Herald and a former colleague of Ogie from their time in the Adams Oshiomhole administration, described him as a towering figure who significantly shaped Edo State politics.
“Politics would be in a better place if more leaders followed Ogie’s wise yet pragmatic approach,” Omo-Ojo remarked. “Osarodion Ogie, Esq., leaves his role as SSG after a distinguished tenure spanning nearly 16 years of meritorious service.”
Kehinde Ozeto Akerele, twin brother of former Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, also congratulated Ogie, highlighting his open-door policy both in official duties and personal interactions.
“The first time I encountered you, I was struck by your accessibility and openness, from the gate to your living room,” Akerele recalled. “You are truly a remarkable individual. I wish you continued success, good health, and prosperity.”
Prior to his tenure as SSG, Osarodion Ogie was the Principal Partner at Osarodion Ogie & Co. He served as Chief of Staff to Adams Oshiomhole in 2008 and subsequently as Commissioner for Works from 2012 to 2016, before assuming the role of SSG under Governor Obaseki’s administration until his recent resignation.
