In recognition of her selfless service and significant contributions to the education sector, national development, and legislative affairs, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, has been awarded the Nigeria Education Merit Award.
Asiwaju Temidayo Ayodele, the publisher of Edu Essence Magazine International, presented the award to Egwaba, the first female Deputy Speaker in Kogi State’s history. Ayodele described the recipient as an “amazon personified” and praised her efforts in revamping the educational sector in Kogi State.
“The Nigeria Education Merit Award is our modest contribution to national development, serving as a motivational impetus for individuals who have contributed immensely to raising the standard of education, especially in Kogi State and by extension, national development,” Ayodele stated.
In her acceptance speech, Egwaba expressed her commitment to overhauling the education sector in Ibaji State Constituency, Kogi State, and Nigeria as a whole[1]. She dedicated the award to her constituency and the people of Kogi State, emphasizing that it would spur her to do more for the state and the nation.
As a legislator, Egwaba advocated for the inclusion of more women in governance during a recent UN summit in Abuja[1]. She commended the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, and the current Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for exceeding the 35% affirmative action for women in governance.
Egwaba’s recognition highlights the important role that women play in nation-building and the need for their increased participation in governance. She urged women to overcome the mentality that men would not allow them to achieve their political goals, stating that when women look beyond this, Nigeria will develop.
The Deputy Speaker’s award is a testament to her dedication and commitment to improving the lives of her constituents and the people of Kogi State. Her efforts in the education sector and her advocacy for women’s inclusion in governance demonstrate her passion for creating positive change and serving the people she represents.
As Egwaba continues her tenure as Deputy Speaker, her award serves as a reminder of the impact that dedicated and selfless leaders can have on their communities and the nation as a whole. Her story inspires others to follow in her footsteps and work towards creating a better future for all Nigerians.
