Elder statesman and prominent figure in the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, Edwin Clark, has urged the immediate departure of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to reports, Clark’s request was conveyed through a formal letter sent to the PDP’s National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun.
Clark emphasized that Wike’s exit is crucial for the party’s continued existence. The former Federal Commissioner for Information and respected leader from the South-South region elaborated on what he described as Wike’s manipulative tactics aimed at pressuring Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the party, exploiting his close ties with President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during a press conference at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja, on Tuesday, Clark expressed his frustration with Minister Wike’s ongoing efforts to destabilize Governor Fubara’s leadership. He reminded the PDP chairman that his political journey began long before Wike was born and warned that ignoring Wike’s actions could lead to dire consequences for both the minister and his supporters.
In the midst of crafting a book titled “PDP: To Be or Not To Be,” Clark raised concerns over a troubling trend of former governors, such as Bello Matawalle from Zamfara, Dave Umahi from Ebonyi, and Ben Ayade from Cross River, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). He suggested that Wike’s current behavior mirrors that of these defectors.
Clark reflected on Wike’s acknowledgment of former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili and his wife, stating, “He credits them for his rise but now seems bent on undermining their legacy.
I refuse to let him ruin Rivers State,” he proclaimed. He accused Wike of attempting to use the PDP against itself after failing to disrupt the party through the APC.
