The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to growing public dissatisfaction regarding its failure to disclose the identity of the former government official linked to the recently forfeited estate, which includes 753 duplexes and additional apartments located in Lokogoma District, Abuja.

On Monday, the EFCC announced this landmark asset recovery, attributing ownership to a former government official. The agency faced significant backlash from Nigerians who demanded transparency regarding the politician’s identity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the EFCC explained its rationale for withholding the name. “It is crucial to understand that the ongoing criminal investigation into this case is still in progress,” the statement clarified.

The EFCC emphasized that it would be unprofessional to publicly name individuals whose identities are not directly associated with any official documents pertaining to the properties in question.

“We remain committed to our principle of not sparing anyone in our investigations, and together we will strive to enhance Nigeria’s integrity,” the statement concluded.
