The operation saw 21 suspects arrested in Eket, while the remaining 19 were detained in Ikot Ekpene. All of the suspects are male. Notably, among the arrested individuals are several graduates and working-class men employed in respectable companies. This highlights the disturbing trend of educated and seemingly respectable individuals engaging in illegal activities.

During the raids, the EFCC operatives seized several items linked to the fraudulent activities. These items included one Toyota SUV XLE, nine laptop computers, 64 smartphones, one internet router, and a smartwatch. These items are believed to be tools and proceeds from their illegal activities.

The EFCC has indicated that the suspects will face charges in court once investigations are completed. This operation is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to curb the rising tide of internet fraud in the region.

Internet fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo” in Nigeria, has been a growing concern, with many young individuals being lured into the illegal trade. These fraudsters often deceive unsuspecting victims, both locally and internationally, leading to significant financial losses and reputational damage.
