I’n a major effort to enhance healthcare accessibility and outcomes for the people of Ekiti State, the State Government has announced the commencement of a comprehensive Free Surgical Mission.

This initiative is designed to provide essential surgical care to residents across the state, particularly targeting those who are underserved and financially disadvantaged.

Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, stated in Ado-Ekiti over the weekend that the Free Surgical Mission will be conducted across various healthcare facilities in the state.

The mission aims to address a wide range of surgical needs, including Caesarean sections, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cataract surgeries, lump removals, fibroid removals, hydrocele (IPA), and other minor and major surgical procedures.

Dr. Filani highlighted the key objectives of the Free Surgical Mission, which include enhancing healthcare access by providing free surgical services to residents who might otherwise be unable to afford such care.

The initiative is also focused on improving health outcomes by addressing surgical conditions that can significantly impact the quality of life and overall health of residents.

Furthermore, the program aims to reduce healthcare disparities and ensure equitable healthcare delivery across all socioeconomic groups within Ekiti State.

Enrollment for patients needing surgical intervention is currently ongoing at primary health care facilities in all wards across the state.

Patients are required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and a passport photograph during enrollment for the program.

The surgeries will be performed at selected hospitals equipped with the necessary facilities and personnel to ensure safe and effective outcomes.

Additionally, post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will be provided to ensure full recovery and promptly address any complications that may arise.

Dr. Filani commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for approving the free surgical mission, emphasizing that the Governor’s gesture underscores his administration’s dedication to fostering a healthier and more resilient Ekiti State by building a robust healthcare system and eliminating financial barriers to essential surgical care.

The Commissioner urged eligible residents to contact the officials of the Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme for further information and to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to improve their health and well-being.
