Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado-Ekiti has announced a delay in the start of exams for the 2023/2024 academic year. The exams for 400 and 500-level students, as well as 100, 200, and 300-level students, will now begin one week later than initially planned. Instead of starting on Monday, August 12, they will start on Monday, August 19, 2024.
This information was shared by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, during a press conference on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti. Prof. Olanipekun explained that the delay was necessary due to unexpected issues that disrupted the university’s academic calendar. He emphasized that this extra week would give students more time to prepare, which should help them perform better in their exams.
Prof. Olanipekun mentioned that the decision was made in consultation with the student union leaders, who agreed to the new schedule. He encouraged students to continue their studies as usual during this extended preparation period.
In addition to discussing the exam delay, Prof. Olanipekun announced that EKSU is planning to introduce two new programs: Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery. The university is awaiting the approval of the National Universities Commission and relevant professional regulatory bodies. If the approvals are granted, EKSU will admit students into these programs soon.
Furthermore, Prof. Olanipekun highlighted the recent promotions within the university. Seventy academic staff members were promoted to Professors, spanning various fields, colleges, and faculties. Additionally, sixty staff members were elevated to the position of Readers (Associate Professors). Non-teaching staff also received promotions, with some advancing to roles such as Deputy Registrar and Deputy Bursar. Specifically, the Faculty of Law now boasts seven Professors, up from the previous two.
EKSU has postponed its exams by one week to allow students more preparation time, is set to introduce new academic programs, and has recognized the achievements of its staff with several promotions.
