Hon. Bello El-Rufai, the representative for Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, has dismissed rumors regarding a raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at his Kaduna residence.
The lawmaker, who is the eldest son of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, addressed the matter in a statement released on Wednesday.
Recent reports alleged that the EFCC discovered $800 million and ₦700 billion in cash, along with ₦1 trillion worth of illicit drugs at El-Rufai’s home. However, he clarified that he does not possess a personal residence in Kaduna, stating that he resides in the family home located in Unguwar Sarki, where he has lived since birth.
El-Rufai characterized the accusations as a deliberate effort to mislead the public, damage his reputation, and create confusion. “My constituents are aware of what would occur if I were truly in possession of such sums,” he remarked.
He addressed those behind these “misguided attacks,” vowing to continue serving the people and enjoying the frustration it brings to his detractors. “Our commitment to providing quality, transparent, and honest representation remains unwavering in Kaduna North,” he affirmed.
The lawmaker condemned the use of misinformation to manipulate public opinion and incite discord against him, labeling the baseless allegations as defamatory and an affront to justice and fairness. He pledged to pursue legal action against the media outlets responsible for spreading the rumor.
In response to the allegations, the EFCC also denied conducting any raid on El-Rufai’s residence. In a brief statement shared on Facebook, the anti-graft agency described the story titled, “EFCC Discovers $800 Million, ₦700 Billion Cash, and ₦1 Trillion Worth of Drugs at Nasir El-Rufai Son’s House in Kaduna” as a “false narrative.”
The commission urged the public to disregard the misleading reports.
