Numerous elderly voters gathered in Ewohimi, located in the Esan South East Local Government Area, to cast their ballots in the recent governorship election in Edo State.
Among the notable senior citizens participating were Chief Ikehide Honda, aged 91, Mrs. Betty Evbuomwan, 82, and Chief Idida Friday, who is over 70. They all voted at Ward 1, Unit 3, Okaigben Idinrio Primary School.
After casting their votes, both Ikehide and Betty expressed their motivation for voting, which stemmed from their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who hails from their community. Chief Ikehide, the community leader, remarked, “Having lived long enough, I recognize when something significant is happening. Today, we stand united for our own.”
He further emphasized, “If our son, Asue Ighodalo, emerges victorious, we can expect more development in our area. Previous governors have brought progress to their communities, and we desire the same.”
Mrs. Betty Evbuomwan shared her sentiments, stating, “I am here to support my son. We hope for his victory so that our community can flourish.”
Chief Idida Friday also weighed in, expressing, “This is a pivotal day for us. Our community is united, especially our seniors who grasp the importance of this moment. Ewohimi has never witnessed such active participation from our elderly citizens, reflecting our belief in the abilities and vision of one of our own.”
Another elder, Wilson Bello, added, “The atmosphere is charged with optimism and a shared sense of purpose as we envision a brighter future with one of our own seeking leadership. Our turnout, despite various challenges, highlights our commitment to the progress of Ewohimi and the state overall.”
The presence of these senior voters at the polling station underscores their unwavering determination to exercise their civic rights and contribute to the democratic process.
