In a startling incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, an electrician fell off an electric pole while attempting to disconnect the power supply to a resident’s home in Abeokuta. The unfortunate event took place amidst heavy rainfall in the Isale-Igbein area of the city.
Eyewitnesses reported that the electrician, who was working during a downpour, climbed the pole to disconnect the electricity due to outstanding bills. As he tried to manoeuvre the disconnection, he reportedly lost his balance and slipped from the pole, crashing to the ground.
“We were all shouting for him to come down and wait until the rain stopped, but he didn’t listen. Next thing we knew, he slipped and fell,” said a nearby resident.
The electrician sustained significant injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by concerned residents. His condition remains critical but stable as doctors work tirelessly to stabilize him.
Local officials are urging electricians and service providers to ensure that workers adhere to strict safety protocols, particularly during adverse weather conditions, to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
