Honorable Malachy Onyechi, the representative for Nsukka West State Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, has expressed strong confidence that the Labour Party (LP) will replicate its success from the 2023 general elections in the forthcoming Local Government Council election scheduled for October 5 in Nsukka Local Government.

In a recent interview with our reporter in Nsukka, Onyechi asserted that the LP’s candidates for both councillorship and chairmanship positions are poised to outshine their competitors, just as they did in the previous elections.

“During the 2023 general elections, LP emerged victorious in all elective positions within Nsukka LG, thanks to our credible candidates and the trust that the populace has in our party,” he stated.

He predicted, “We are set for a repeat of that decisive victory in the upcoming Local Government Council election in Enugu State.”

Onyechi noted that an increasing number of Nigerians recognize that only LP can effectively combat hunger and alleviate hardship at the federal, state, and local government levels.

He revealed that the party has successfully held its primary elections, resulting in the selection of trustworthy candidates for the October 5 polls.

He highlighted Chief Ernest Ogwo from Lejja in Nsukka East as LP’s chairmanship candidate, describing him as a dedicated, humble politician with strong grassroots connections.

“LP stands for justice and fairness, which is why we have chosen a committed politician from Nsukka East. This region has been overlooked and has not had the opportunity to hold the position of Nsukka LG Council chairman for the past decade.”

Onyechi emphasized that Ogwo’s nomination as the LP standard bearer has garnered applause and support from members of both the LP and rival parties in Nsukka LG.

“This widespread acceptance indicates that he is well-positioned to secure victory in the elections on October 5,” he added.

Additionally, he mentioned that 20 competent LP councillorship candidates from various political wards in Nsukka LG are also set to compete and are expected to win their respective wards due to their commendable track records.

The lawmaker expressed his trust in the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) as the regulatory body overseeing the October 5 local elections.

“I am confident that ENSIEC will ensure a credible, free, and fair election during the upcoming polls. They have been performing well by involving all political parties, and I am optimistic they will maintain this standard on October 5,” he concluded.
