Enyimba FC has been penalized with a substantial fine of N10 million for disrupting a live match against Rangers FC, violating multiple rules, and tarnishing the image of the Nigerian Premier Football League.

The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken a strong stance against indiscipline in the league by slapping Enyimba International Football Club with a massive N10 million fine and severe penalties for disrupting a live match against Rangers International FC.

The incident, which occurred on June 9, 2024, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, saw Enyimba FC violate multiple rules, including disrupting the live broadcast, allowing objects to be thrown onto the field, and refusing to continue the match in protest against a penalty awarded to their opponents.

In addition to the fine, Enyimba FC has been ordered to forfeit three points and three goals to Rangers FC, effectively handing their opponents a 3-0 victory. The club has also been instructed to identify and produce for investigation any other players and officials complicit in the disruptive conduct.

The NPFL’s swift and decisive action demonstrates its commitment to upholding the principles of fair play, sportsmanship, and the sanctity of the sport. The league’s Chief Executive Officer, Davidson Owumi, emphasized that any form of indiscipline, violence, or actions that bring the game into disrepute will not be tolerated.

The sanctions imposed on Enyimba FC serve as a strong message to all clubs in the NPFL that discipline and fair play are non-negotiable. While the financial burden of the fine is substantial, it pales in comparison to the reputational damage inflicted on Enyimba FC and the NPFL as a whole.

As the league moves forward, clubs, players, officials, and supporters must take measures to ensure that such disruptions do not occur again. The NPFL’s firm stance sets the stage for a more competitive and respectable footballing environment in Nigeria.
