Residents of Nnewi, Anambra State, are facing a growing crisis as severe erosion continues to ravage homes, farmlands, and roads in the area, leaving many in fear of losing their properties and livelihoods.

The erosion, which has worsened due to recent heavy rains, has already claimed several houses and vast expanses of farmland, displacing families and causing significant economic hardship. Local leaders have described the situation as a disaster in the making, with entire communities at risk of being swallowed by gully erosion if immediate action is not taken.

A resident whose house now teeters on the edge of a deep gully, expressed his concern: “We live in constant fear. Every time it rains, the ground gives way a little more. We don’t know if our homes will still be standing tomorrow.”

However, many residents are skeptical, citing past promises that have gone unfulfilled. “We’ve been asking for help for years, but nothing has been done,” said Chief Nwosu, a community elder. “We need more than just promises—we need action before it’s too late.”

As the rains continue and the gullies deepen, the people of Nnewi remain on edge, hoping for a swift and effective response to save their homes and farmlands from further destruction.
