Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, recently inaugurated the National Open University (NOUN) Study Centre in the Wase local government area of Plateau State.
The project, a federal initiative, was championed by the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, for his constituency.
During the commissioning, Senator Lalong emphasized the importance of enhancing education to empower Nigerians, especially those in rural areas, to overcome poverty and ignorance.
He praised Hon. Idris Maje for his efforts in attracting and completing the project, as well as President Tinubu and the Ministry of Education for their collaboration with the National Assembly, which ensured its success.
The newly established study centre is expected to provide educational opportunities for marginalized individuals and those seeking further education.

Hon. Idris Wase expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support throughout his tenure, promising to continue driving development that benefits both current and future generations. He also lauded former Governor Lalong for his leadership and commitment to unity, peace, and progress.
The NOUN Study Centre in Wase aims to make higher education more accessible to rural dwellers, thereby enhancing capacity for national development.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Isaac Buswat highlighted the center’s role as a platform for educational advancement, urging both young and old to seize the opportunity for personal development. He assured all Nigerians of equal opportunities to benefit from the center’s offerings.
