Nigerian singer and songwriter, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has taken legal action against social media activist Verydarkman, issuing a 24-hour ultimatum for compliance.

The legal action stems from allegations made by Verydarkman, who claimed that Falz and his father, Femi Falana (a senior advocate of Nigeria), assisted crossdresser Bobrisky in dropping money laundering charges against him after allegedly receiving N15 million. The accusations were shared in a viral voice recording by the activist.

In response to these allegations, Falz publicly shared a legal petition from his family’s lawyer on his Instagram page, addressing the accusations made by Verydarkman.

The petition, titled “DEMAND FOR WITHDRAWAL AND RETRACTION OF DEFAMATORY STATEMENT AGAINST ME FOLARIN FALANA (AKA FALZ),” clearly states that Falz had no involvement in the alleged activities. The letter emphasizes that Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, initiated contact with Falz on May 4, 2024, requesting a conversation. According to Falz, Bobrisky claimed to be in distress and requested N3 million to pay officials to remain in the VIP section of a Correctional Centre. Falz denied involvement in any monetary transaction, advising Bobrisky that there was no need to pay any officials.

The petition further details how Verydarkman’s allegations insinuated that Falz was complicit in obstructing justice for financial gain and engaged in an illicit affair. Falz’s legal team argues that these accusations were false, misleading, and intended to damage his reputation as a human rights activist.

Falz has demanded an immediate retraction and public apology across all platforms where the defamatory statements were shared. If no retraction or apology is issued within the 24-hour deadline, Falz intends to pursue legal action, including seeking monetary damages for the defamation.
