Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has firmly stated that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stands no chance of securing the party’s nomination for the 2027 elections.

Wike made this declaration during a live media session in his office in Abuja.

When asked about Atiku’s recent assertion that his economic plans would be more beneficial to Nigerians than the current administration’s policies, Wike pointed out that Atiku had already presented his proposals to the public, only to be met with rejection.

He remarked, “Did he not share his plans with Nigerians before? Did they choose him? He is seeking another opportunity, but that opportunity will not be available. In which party? How can we depend on one individual for so long?”

Wike drew a parallel with American politics, stating, “Look at the United States. Many of you did not support Trump, labelling him as a racist and more. We expressed our concerns, yet Americans made a choice that they believed would benefit their country.”

He continued, “Atiku’s blueprint was presented in 2023; Nigerians listened and chose to say, ‘thank you, but this won’t work for us. We won’t back you.’ Just because there is criticism doesn’t mean the opposition is making progress.”

Wike emphasized that even when Trump was out of office, he remained active and vocal, implying that leadership requires more than just past proposals.
