Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has expressed unwavering confidence in his decision to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, stating that he has no regrets about his choice.

Wike, who previously served as the Governor of Rivers State for eight years under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made these remarks during a thanksgiving service in Ochigba, Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas. He took the opportunity to thank President Tinubu for placing his trust in him.

The FCT Minister recounted facing threats prior to the presidential elections due to his endorsement of Tinubu but affirmed his commitment to stand by that decision should similar circumstances arise in the future. “I have no regrets, and I owe no apologies. If given the chance again, I would make the same choice,” he asserted.

In addition, Wike admitted that he played a crucial role in the removing of Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the PDP. He criticized Secondus for attempting to promote his cousin, Tele Ikuru, for the governorship of Rivers State, a move Wike believed was against the wishes of the electorate and detrimental to the candidacy of Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking at the PDP’s end-of-year thanksgiving event in Ahoada, Wike explained that Secondus’s actions ultimately led to his removal from leadership within the party.

Wike also took the opportunity to criticize former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia, and Governor Fubara for their recent remarks made during the inauguration of projects in the state. In response to Secondus’s claim that Wike was an “enemy of the state,” he questioned the former chairman’s recent alliance with Governor Fubara, suggesting a disconnect in their political loyalties.
