The federal government is calling on Nigerians to actively contribute vital information and collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the safety of citizens and their property.

In a recent address, the importance of grassroots security initiatives and the welfare of police officers was highlighted as crucial elements in fostering a secure nation. Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, made these remarks during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Umuahia, themed “Community Policing: Building A Safer Nigeria Together.”

Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the approach to policing, which includes improving the conditions for police personnel through a six-point framework established by her ministry.

She encouraged citizens to engage in shared security responsibilities and affirmed that upgrading police barracks, training facilities, and other essential infrastructures will be a primary focus moving forward.

She noted that Abia State’s strategic location necessitates stronger measures to combat illegal activities like smuggling, while also praising the collaborative efforts of the state government and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in maintaining security.

“The aim of this town hall meeting is to create a transparent dialogue between the Ministry of Police Affairs and the public in selected states, as well as to provide comprehensive information about ongoing and upcoming reforms within the Nigeria Police to enhance public understanding,” she stated.

In his remarks, Abia State Governor Alex Otti reinforced the idea that ensuring the safety of lives and property is a collective responsibility for all Nigerians. He assured that his administration is committed to supporting the police and other security agencies in their battle against crime.
