The federal government, represented by David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has officially introduced the blueprint for the ‘Renewed Hope Road Infrastructure Legacy Project’. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity between Akwanga, Jos, Bauchi, and Gombe states in the northeastern region of Nigeria.
Umahi made this announcement during a courtesy visit to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, at the State Government House on Thursday.
In a statement shared with the media, Umahi clarified that the current deficiencies in road distribution were not a result of President Tinubu’s policies, emphasizing that efforts are underway to resolve these issues. He explained, “This is precisely why we have introduced this fourth legacy project, which extends from Akwanga to Jos and then to Bauchi State. We appreciate your proactive measures in addressing a significant portion of the road within your jurisdiction.”
The ‘Renewed Hope’ legacy projects are not only vital for ensuring seamless connectivity across the six geopolitical zones but also represent a comprehensive architectural framework aimed at stimulating the nation’s economy. This includes boosting agriculture, creating jobs, fostering regional integration, enhancing tourism, improving transportation systems, and promoting industrial development.
In related news, Umahi noted that the President is preparing for a trip to China, which is significant as an earlier agreement was established for funding these road projects under an EPC + F model.
Although the anticipated foreign financing from Chinese investors did not materialize immediately, the President is working to revitalize this agreement. “We are optimistic about securing funding in China, allowing us to not only construct these roads but also upgrade them to dual carriageways,” he stated.
Furthermore, the Minister visited areas affected by flooding along the Kano-Maiduguri Road and was present at the dualization site of Section 3 in Buskuri town. He reassured residents that the government is committed to timely interventions in response to their concerns.
Governor Mohammed expressed his gratitude for the government’s efforts in addressing the pressing needs of the community.
