The Federal Government has been urged to take immediate action to eliminate all forms of foreign interference that jeopardize Nigeria’s sovereignty, as this presents a significant threat to the nation’s security.

Comrade Yakubu Mohammed, the state chairman of the Katsina Concerned Citizen for Good Governance (KCCGG), shared this crucial advice in a statement released to journalists in Katsina on Friday.

He emphasized that sovereignty is not just an abstract concept; it is the bedrock upon which Nigeria’s political stability, economic growth, and social unity depend. However, the increasing influence of external forces, whether through political meddling or covert activities, poses severe risks to this essential principle.

“Foreign governments are intruding into Nigeria’s internal matters in various ways, primarily aiming to disrupt the country’s political framework. Such intrusions not only weaken national sovereignty but also exacerbate ongoing insecurity and hinder development,” he stated.

He expressed that recent events in the country, especially following the national protests, pose serious risks to Nigeria’s integrity as a nation.

A coalition of civil society organizations in Katsina, led by the KCCGG, has voiced significant concern over recent actions by foreign nationals that threaten the sovereignty and dignity of Nigeria.

Mohammed specifically highlighted incidents involving individuals who have been apprehended for actions detrimental to Nigeria, including those who displayed foreign flags, particularly the Russian flag, while disrespecting the Nigerian flag. He called for thorough investigations and appropriate legal action against those involved.

“These actions are a blatant insult to Nigeria’s peace, security, and values, necessitating a strong response to uphold our national dignity and sovereignty,” he remarked.

He further stated that the Nigerian government has the opportunity to strengthen its sovereignty, restore public trust, and establish a more robust governance framework. Nigeria’s autonomy is not just a matter of national pride; it is vital for ensuring long-term stability and security.

“By protecting our sovereignty, Nigeria can truly unleash its potential and pave the way for a future characterized by self-determination and sustainable progress,” he asserted.

In light of the economic challenges facing the country, the group also called on the federal and state governments to reassess their economic strategies and provide relief to the large population struggling under current conditions.
