Members of the House of Representatives, operating under the collective banner of G-60, have emphatically called for continued support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. This group, led by Ikenga Ugochinyere, a legislator from Imo State, made their way to the Government House in Port Harcourt to show their solidarity. The gathering was notable, with at least 30 lawmakers in attendance, showcasing a broad spectrum of political affiliations and geographical representation.
The visit commenced with a special Thanksgiving Church Service to commemorate Governor Fubara’s first anniversary in office. The service took place at the St Paul’s Anglican Church, Garrison Junction, and was attended by the lawmakers and various dignitaries. Following the church service, the legislators were hosted by Governor Fubara at the Government House for a brief yet significant discussion.
During the meeting, Ugochinyere, who spoke on behalf of the G-60, lauded Governor Fubara for his unwavering focus and resilience amidst the challenges he has faced over the past months. He expressed admiration for the governor’s achievements, particularly highlighting the significant strides made in infrastructure development and people-oriented policies.
Ugochinyere highlighted several key projects that have garnered the lawmakers’ admiration. “We are particularly delighted with the Trans-Kalabari Road project, which is set to traverse the swampy regions of the State, benefiting over three or four local governments,” he stated. This project is seen as a monumental effort to improve connectivity and foster economic growth in previously hard-to-reach areas.
He also commended the Port Harcourt Ring Road project, which spans six local government areas and promises to alleviate traffic congestion in the bustling city of Port Harcourt. Additionally, the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Road project was acknowledged for its potential to enhance transportation and commerce within the state. “These infrastructure projects are testament to the governor’s commitment to the development of Rivers State,” Ugochinyere noted.
Furthermore, Ugochinyere assured Governor Fubara of the unwavering support of the House of Representatives members present, as well as those who were unable to attend. “We are here to say that the House of Representatives members who are here today, and on behalf of our other brothers who are part of us but couldn’t make it here today, are solidly with the Governor. We appreciate what he is doing and we are here to thank God Almighty for what he has done, and call on Rivers people to continue to stand strongly and firmly with His Excellency,t the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, so that he can be able to deliver on those promises he made to Rivers people,” he proclaimed.
The solidarity extended by the Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo, was also praised. Ugochinyere acknowledged that such support has been instrumental in ensuring the people of Rivers State reap the benefits of democracy, facilitated by the harmonious cooperation between the Executive and the Legislature.
In his address, Ugochinyere urged those on the opposite political spectrum to prioritize the collective interests of Rivers State over individual or partisan concerns. “The development of Rivers State is about public trust and public institution. There is nothing personal about it, and it is God who gives power, and put Governor Fubara on the saddle. So, let’s all join hands together to work with him to deliver on those projects,” he emphasized.
He reiterated the significance of their gathering, underscoring that the celebration was not merely about marking one year in office. “Even though to us, in actual sense, it is not one year in office. It is about four months in office before he took charge as Governor of Rivers State,” Ugochinyere clarified. This statement reflects the group’s recognition of Governor Fubara’s swift and impactful actions in a relatively short period.
The event underscored the collaborative spirit among the lawmakers and their commitment to supporting Governor Fubara’s vision for Rivers State. Their visit and statements serve as a call to action for all stakeholders to unite in the pursuit of the state’s development and prosperity.
