The federal government of Nigeria on Sunday met with the representatives of organized labor to further negotiate on the new minimum wage that will both not render the counter bankrupt and will also cater to the average Nigerian worker.
Further to this negotiation, it was agreed on the part of the government that the minimum wage would be upped and above the current #60,000 on the table.
The meeting which was held in the house of the Secretary to the government of the Federation, the organized labor has agreed to down tools as they will be meeting once every day to finalize the return of workers to their job.
In a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, Minister of State for Labor and employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, President Nigerian Labor Congress, Joe Ajaero and the chairman, Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo, the tripartite committee is to meet everyday for the next one week with a view of arriving at an agreeable National minimum wage.
The statement also agreed that no Nigerian worker will be victimized in the course of the agreement and subsequent resumption of work.
The Nigerian Labor Congress and Trade Union Congress on Monday embarked on a national strike that has broken down almost every sector, including the aviation workers which have forced delay in travelling of business individuals.
Due to the ongoing industrial action, the Power sector has also down tools and the country is currently observing a national blackout which has raised eyebrows on the way forward of the average Nigerian.
The agreement will see the organized labor return to work as soon as a figure is set to an appreciable state that can cater for the basic needs of an average Nigerian worker.
