The Federal Government has announced an increase in the cost of obtaining Nigerian passports, set to take effect from September 1, 2024.
The adjustment was disclosed by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) spokesperson, DCI Kenneth Udo, in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Udo, the fee hike is part of the government’s efforts to maintain the quality and security of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
As per the new pricing structure, the 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity will now cost N50,000, up from N35,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will see an increase from N70,000 to N100,000.
The statement clarified that the fees for passports issued in the Diaspora remain unchanged.
While acknowledging the potential inconvenience to applicants, the NIS assured Nigerians of its continued commitment to transparency and quality service delivery.
