The Federal Government has announced plans to create 6,500 jobs by building 250 housing units in the Renewed Hope Estate in Ebonyi State.

Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, disclosed this during the groundbreaking ceremony held at Umuezekohu community in Ezza North Local Government Area.

The estate, expected to be completed within three months, will consist of 50 units of one-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 150 units of two-bedroom, and 50 units of three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.

According to Dangiwa, the project will generate employment opportunities for architects, civil and mechanical engineers, plumbers, masons, tilers, and various trades involved in the construction and related economic activities.

“This initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, aimed at delivering 50,000 housing units across Nigeria,” Dangiwa explained.

He highlighted that similar groundbreaking exercises have commenced in various states across the country, with plans to enhance housing development potentials nationwide.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Deputy Governor Mrs. Patricia Obila, praised the initiative as historic and emphasized its importance in fulfilling the state’s goal of providing affordable housing for its citizens.

He also assured adequate security measures for the project’s timely completion and advocated for local indigenes to benefit substantially from the allocation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Proportion Construction Company, speaking on behalf of developers, pledged commitment to completing the project within the specified timeline and ensuring it meets required standards.

The housing units are designed to be accessible and affordable through various acquisition options, including single-digit mortgage loans repayable over 30 years, rent-to-own schemes, and outright purchase options facilitated by the Federal Mortgage Bank.

Overall, the initiative aims not only to address housing deficits but also to stimulate economic growth through job creation and local economic development in Ebonyi State and beyond.
