The Nigeria U-17 female team, the Flamengos on Sunday defeated their Liberia counter 4-1 in a FIFA U-17 women’s world cup qualifier.
Nigeria was hosted by Liberia at the Samuel Kanyon Doe stadium in Monrovia and they were on their wings flying as usual in the first leg.
Abidemi Moshood set the ball rolling for Nigeria after opening the scoring in the 19th minute to put the open the scoring for Nigeria.
Ten minutes later, Peace Effiong doubled the advantage in the 29th minute before Harmony Chidi completed the third goal in the first half to put the game beyond the Liberians.
The second half did not produced much goals as Nigeria only needed one goal, this time from Blessing Ifitezue in the 74th minute to cement Nigeria’s victory and set the tie beyond liberia.
Liberia was awarded a penalty after Nigerian defender Onyedikachi Ekezie committed a foul inside the 18-yard box, presenting the host with an opportunity to score what was just a mere consolation.
Nigeria will host them in Abuja on June 14th for the second leg of the qualifiers to determine who actually progresses to the FIFA U-17 women’s world cup.
