Two adult men suffered severe burns in Lagos after a fire broke out at the Mobil Filling Station on Obafemi Awolowo Way, opposite Airport Hotel in Ikeja on Thursday.

The blaze, which is still under investigation, also affected six vehicles, both private and commercial.

The injured individuals were swiftly rescued and given initial medical treatment by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Pre-Hospital Care Team in conjunction with LASAMBUS.

They were then transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further care.

Nosa Okunbor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at LASEMA, confirmed that the fire has been brought under control by the agency’s LRT and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Their quick response prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Investigations revealed that the fire was caused by the explosion of a 12-ton gas truck, the registration number of which is currently unknown. The explosion affected several cars within the filling station and damaged parts of a nearby building.

In response to distress calls received through the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 11:08 a.m., LASEMA activated its Tiger Response Team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. Upon arrival, the team found the Mobil Filling Station engulfed in flames.

The fire impacted six vehicles and the second floor of a two-storey building adjacent to the gas station. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but two men sustained severe burns while others had minor injuries.

Safety measures were implemented to protect responders at the scene. LRT, in collaboration with other first responders, is coordinating the rescue operation to restore normalcy in the area.
