A fire broke out at the Apapa Container Terminal within the Tin-Can Island Port, damaging cranes in Lagos State.
The facility, managed by the Port and Cargo Handling Company, experienced a significant blaze; however, no casualties were reported.
In a statement, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) confirmed that its firefighters, with support from other agencies, quickly contained the fire, preventing further damage to adjacent port facilities.
The NPA spokesperson, Ikechukwu Onyemekara, commended the agency’s firefighters for their swift and professional response. Onyemekara expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and reassured stakeholders that under the current leadership of Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the NPA remains committed to prioritizing safety and security across Nigerian ports.
Additionally, he emphasized that the NPA is actively working to improve operational efficiency to enhance the ease of doing business at the ports.
