The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism about the nation’s future, asserting that the country’s glory is just around the corner and calling for collective effort to unlock its full potential.

Speaking in Owerri on Friday, where she received a warm welcome from traditional rulers at the Eze Imo Palace, Mrs. Tinubu acknowledged the current challenges faced by Nigerians but emphasized that these obstacles can be overcome with genuine commitment.

Her visit coincided with the upcoming conferment of an honorary doctorate degree on her by the Federal University of Technology Owerri on December 7, 2024. During the event, Governor Hope Uzodimma praised her as the best First Lady he has encountered in his over 40 years in politics.

Addressing an audience of traditional rulers from all 27 local government areas of Imo State, their spouses, and various government officials, Mrs. Tinubu expressed her gratitude for the support she and her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, received during the 2023 elections.

“Last year, when I visited with the Vice President’s wife, we promised to return. Here we are, back to express our thanks. With God’s guidance, Nigeria is destined for greatness, and this Christmas will be joyous,” she declared.

She commended the people of Imo for their spirit of tolerance and highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence among diverse communities. It was heartening to see leaders from the Yoruba and Arewa communities join their Igbo counterparts in welcoming her.

Mrs. Tinubu also praised Governor Uzodimma’s leadership, noting the impressive development in the state. “The roads we saw on our way here are beautiful, and your Governor is doing an excellent job,” she remarked.

She encouraged Nigerians to focus on hard work and invest in their children’s education, stating, “Hard work does not lead to failure; rather, it reaps rewards.” She urged families to instill a work ethic in their children and to take agriculture seriously, emphasizing Nigeria’s abundant potential that can be realized through dedication.

Governor Uzodimma echoed Mrs. Tinubu’s sentiments, stating that he has never encountered a First Lady as devoted and compassionate as she is. He assured her that she and her entourage were warmly welcomed in Imo, reflecting the genuine affection the people hold for her and her husband.

The Governor also reminded attendees that President Tinubu’s administration is striving to improve the nation, despite the global challenges contributing to current difficulties. He urged continued support for the President, who is actively addressing the economic issues arising from the removal of fuel subsidies and international conflicts.

In line with Mrs. Tinubu’s promise of a joyful Christmas, Governor Uzodimma announced that the state has received substantial rice supplies, allowing residents to purchase a bag for N40,000 during the holiday season.

He expressed appreciation for the federal government’s assistance in various areas and acknowledged Mrs. Tinubu for embracing his wife, Chioma, as her daughter.
