In a notable effort to combat poverty, the Renewed Hope Initiative spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside Silifat Abdullahi Sule, the wife of the Nasarawa State Governor, has distributed cash and essential items to support the elderly. On Tuesday, they provided two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) in cash and a bundle of fabric to 250 senior citizens in Nasarawa State.

During the symbolic cash handover at the government house in Lafia, the state capital, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Silifat Abdullahi Sule, emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance the welfare of elderly citizens on an annual basis.

The beneficiaries, aged 65 and older, were selected from all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as veterans from the Defence and Police Officer’s Wives Association.

Senator Oluremi highlighted a significant increase in the grant amount for this year, stating, “The governing board of the Renewed Hope Initiative has decided to raise the grant from ₦100,000 to ₦200,000 in order to offer additional support to our elderly citizens during this festive season.”

She announced that a total of one billion, nine hundred million naira (N900,000,000) will be distributed nationwide, with each of the 36 states’ coordinators, including those from the FCT and the Defence Police Officer’s Wives, receiving fifty million naira (N50,000,000) to facilitate the simultaneous distribution of N200,000 to each beneficiary across the country.

Moreover, Senator Oluremi Tinubu mentioned that the program will also include free medical check-ups and various other services for the participants.
