MARABAN AZAGWA, Taraba State, Nigeria – At least five people were killed and several others injured in a clash between Tiv and Fulani communities in Taraba State on Saturday. The violence erupted in Maraban Azagwa, a Bali Local Government Area village.

Details surrounding the initial spark of the conflict remain unclear. Local sources claim the incident began with the death of a Fulani man at a Tiv-owned beer parlor. The Fulani community reportedly accused the Tiv owner of being responsible, leading to a violent confrontation.

Thepaan News gathered five fatalities on both sides, with a yet-confirmed number of injuries. While the area has calmed following police deployment, residents have reportedly fled their homes, fearing further violence.

DSP Kwache Gambo, acting Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Police Command, confirmed the incident but offered a lower death toll. “Two people have been confirmed dead, with several others injured,” Gambo stated. “The injured are receiving medical treatment, and police have been deployed to the area to maintain order.

This fight shows the problems that still exist between Tiv and Fulani communities. Land and resources have caused violence in this area before. Police want everyone to stay calm and help them figure out what happened.
