No fewer than 50 communities were cut cut-off when the bridge across the Ipin River in Eruwa, Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo State collapsed due to flooding from torrential rainfalls.
ThePaan gathered that the area witnessed heavy downpours between Friday and Saturday last which put pressure on the bridge to cave in to the forceful water torrents. Residents of the area appealed to the Oyo State Government for intervention even as they charged the chairman of the local government area, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, to expedite action in reconstructing the collapsed bridge.
They maintained that more people have been subjected to hardship in the people of the area as a result of the collapsed bridge disrupting their economic activities.
A resident of Eruwa, Mr Oguntade Tajudeen explained that the collapse followed heavy rainfalls witnessed in the town recently. “It is common knowledge that nobody could prevent rain from falling during its season, but the rain which fell on Friday, through Saturday morning was unprecedented”, he said.
